From the peaks of the Himalayas to the very edge of the cosmos, The Known Universe takes viewers on a breathtaking journey.
Produced by the American Museum of Natural History, this short film travels through Earth’s atmosphere, into the darkness of space, and all the way back to the afterglow of the Big Bang.
Every star, planet, and quasar you see is mapped thanks to the Digital Universe Atlas, the most complete four-dimensional representation of the universe, continuously updated by the Museum’s astrophysicists. The film was originally created as part of the exhibition Visions of the Cosmos: From the Milky Ocean to an Evolving Universe at the Rubin Museum of Art in Manhattan and was later updated. This is now an immersive 360 video.
Prepare to see the cosmos, and our place within it, in an entirely new light.
