Who said online streaming and YouTube videos were only about entertainment and passive watching? Certainly not Patryk Garkowski. At just 23 years old, this Polish streamer, better known online as “Latwogang”, has just organized one of the largest charity livestreams ever broadcasted on YouTube. This event, which came in the form of a nine-day online marathon, was followed by millions of viewers, helping raise 251 million zlotys (C$88 million) for Cancer Fighters, a Polish foundation supporting people battling cancer.
It all started in mid-April with a song recorded by the Polish rapper Bedoes 2115 together with Maja Mecan, an 11-year-old girl supported by the Cancer Fighters foundation. The song, I’m Still Here, deeply moved people online and helped spark the idea for the charity marathon. Over the following days, the livestream brought together an impressive number of celebrities, athletes, musicians and content creators. Among them, world-famous figures appeared such as tennis player Iga Świątek and football star Robert Lewandowski, alongside many Polish artists and influencers who joined the event.
This marathon organized by Latwogang was truly unprecedented. Thanks to the money raised, it became the largest charity fundraiser ever achieved through a livestream, surpassing other online events such as the French ZEvent and initiatives like the American charity stream Team Water. Beyond saving lives, Patryk Garkowski also managed to create a powerful moment of unity, bringing millions of people together around a common cause. In just a few days, Latwogang became a true star in Poland, supported by major celebrities and millions of people sharing the same desire to help others.
While social media is often criticized for encouraging division or superficiality, Latwogang’s initiative proves that online platforms can also become powerful tools for solidarity, hope and compassion. Through a simple livestream, this young content creator has transformed online entertainment into something capable of bringing people together and changing lives. A remarkable example for the years to come.
